Rep Ranger

Rep Ranger helps gym enthusiasts track and plan their workouts by working with a rep tracker device that attaches to weights, dumbbells and barbells. Many gym-goers currently use spreadsheets or other logging apps to track their lists, but it is extremely cumbersome to use the mobile keyboard to manually type in your reps and sets. In addition, its often difficult to tell how and when to progress and increase weight. This app then solves both problems by allowing you to plan your workouts, track the reps automatically, and program your workouts from week to week, helping you make progress at a steady pace without getting injured.

This concept was created as part of DSGN 241: Wireframing and App Design. At the time I had been using the RP Hypertrophy strength app that helped me make some of the most progress I had ever made in the gym. The app took a lot of the guesswork out of going to the gym. However, one thing stood out to me: how do you gauge how difficult a rep was? This was just as if not more confusing to myself than the actual workout/split planning. As such I tried to create a app that could work this a corresponding physical tracker (in theory with a gyroscope and accelerometer) to track the movement of your weights in order to determine the rate of perceived exertion and provide more accurate data to help plan your workout.

Users

All gym-goers, workout enthusiasts, bodybuilders, powerlifters are able to use the app. The app mainly targets intermediate and beyond, as someone just starting out would be unlikely to want to optimize their workouts to such as extent.
